...Twist Of Faith
My Story – Leo Schreven 23 March 2012 from InFocus on Vimeo.
My story: Leo Schreven's life change from InFocus on Vimeo.
He was one of my best friends in high school... we called it the new Auschwitz. It was more like a labor camp. Up at 3am to make breakfast and get a shower before the rest of the "herd" got in. We were in religious boot camp. A place that would make you or break you. High up in the beautiful mountains of B.C. Canada. A school of rhetoric and unbending religious fervor. Our principal ruled us rats with a rod of "Thus saith the Lord". She controlled our every waking moment - or at least tried to. But Leo was her favorite. I was a close second. We knew the drill. We had been schooled and drilled in the etiquette of a training style that later delivered to the world the likes of David Koresh and the Waco tragedy. Yes - one lady possessed by the conviction of a voodoo priest - initiated us into the finer lines of black majick rituals with a Christian bent. Reading Scriptures until we could "see" the words through the covers of the closed book. Existing on two or three hours of sleep just to go out in the freezing rain and work all day for 10 or twelve hours sometimes more. Doing the Lord's work they called it.
But Leo was different. He knew how to make the best of a bad situation - or so it seemed. He even found a way to date the Principal's daughter for years right under the nose of the principal - living in her house. I know. I used to be Leo's secret informer. I ran "intel" for him so he knew when the coast was clear. When it would be safe to venture out on those moonless nights - to spend some fleeting moments with his maiden.
Looking back on it all some 30+ years later - I see it clearly now. Leo taught me so much. He taught me to laugh at the heartache that never goes away. He taught me to eat seaweed with rice cooked under a bed on a little can of Sterno fire - because they would starve us for days at school. Leo was a true friend. A hero of sorts to me. I was happy to hear of his success as a business man - and a travelling preacher man. Over the years we never stayed in touch... The memories we shared were too traumatic I guess...
"But I always thought I'd see you again!"

Once In A Lifetime...
Take it from me! It's so hard to learn the lessons we need to learn in life by watching others stumble over the same pitfalls we don't see until it is our mistake to make. Opportunity to do the right thing comes in many forms. Some are easier to take. If only we could give a little bit more attention to the missteps of others, and learn to avoid the same.
Day by day, moment by moment - we are building a great temple. A house. A life in which our destiny is forever sealed in time. Character is something that cannot be ignored or changed after we are gone from this life. Each day is another "brick in the wall" of our future home. A palace or a hovel. A beautiful tapestry or a bag of bones. But build we must. There is no escape. Silently each moment in time lures us on in the formation of this artifice we will call home. Eternity beckons us to build it well. Build a character you can be proud of - a Character which will win for you the blue ribbon prize of immortality! After all -
It only happens once in a lifetime!

In a word...ZEN
We can feel it when we are in it. The moment is filled with everything we have come to know as perfect. The One merging, with the infinite. The sunlight cascading down into the oceans vast unknown. Giving us a glimse of the world of bliss. Pure joy! Like the fleeting moment that it is, we are lost in the wonder of it all. It's like an eternity washed into a moment which transcends all knowing.
In an instant we realize that silent awakening which causes us to be a little more alive - here in the moment. Try as we might, we know this little piece of pure bliss will never come our way again. But still we try and stay within its sacred walls as if we have always lived here. It's like the echos of a lost world are being heard for the first time. It is neither here nor there. This moment just is. A sweet song we sing far into the night.

The history text of YOGA
The History Text of Yoga, Sutras Pantanjali
With all the advancement we achieve, life is so fast and everyone is always busy. With such busy schedule, most of us neglected our health. With the recent popularity of yoga, it puts our mind back to the connection to our bodies. An ancient text about yoga has been pass down for a very long time; the Yoga Sutras Patanjali.
Yoga sutras Patanjali which consist of 195 phrases is written by Patanjali. It designed to be easy to memorize. This text is original written at around 2nd century. Yoga sutras Patanjali has been a very important reference in the evolution of yoga practice. Most of the modern yoga we practice today is originated from this text.
Yoga sutras Patanjali consist of 4 books; Samadhi Pada, Sadhana Pada, Vibhuti Pada and Kaivalya Pada. Samadhi Pada is about the basic of yoga. It is about the disciplines of yoga. As we know, yoga is all about mind and body. When we are practicing yoga, we need to concentrate and be mindful about our bodies. This is how we can relate back to our bodies. Therefore this can be the most important and basic philosophy of the Yoga sutras Patanjali. Without these, yoga will be just another form of exercise.
In the book of Sadhana Pada, Kriya yoga is first introduced and also the eight limbs of yoga first appear. The word Sadhana is practice in Sanskrit. Basically, this book is also about practice. The ultimate purpose of Kriya yoga is to achieve enlightenments or awareness of our being in the universe. This form of yoga is often related to Buddhist and Hindu studies because it is practice by monk in order to achieve peacefulness and enlightenments.
The third book Vibhuti pada is the book about power. There are so many abilities described in the text that seem impossible to us now. But if we take a closer look at Vibhuti Pada, it emphasizes the awareness of our bodies and awakening of our senses. With the awareness, we can synchronize with the energy around us and achieve unity with the universe.
Kaivalya Pada, the book for isolation and freedom, is the last book in Yoga Sutras. Isolation means the isolation of mind from manifestations of material, a pure consciousness of mind. In this books also explain the structure of minds and how it works. If you heard or read about the laws of attraction, you know many of our condition manifests from our mind. In fact this theory is similar to Kaivalya Pada.
I have to emphasize here that yoga is not any exercise. Every poses and movement combine the knowledge of our physical being and our minds. It exercises you body and your mind. Maybe not everyone would like to achieve enlightenment now, but it is indeed a good exercise for you to reconnect with your own body.

In This Moment...
In this quiet moment, I just want to start off the new year with some simple things which keep tracking through my mind and thoughts. First, and foremost I resolve to stop looking back over my life as if I must regret the past with all of its moments of circumvented gratitude and times of emotional uncertainty - which follows everyone from time to time. I also have taken an oath to the day. To let the moment of truth be the guide which permeates all of my being as I contemplate the options that life brings to the table. In all things to give thanks.... Yes, I know it sounds quite trite. However, the silent glow of some mystical times past haunts my inner being with a wisdom which surely must bring with it an inner beauty which will give solace to the haunted soul.
As the moon arises in all its pale splendor - like a bloodless light above the wreckage of some long forgotten godless temple, my mind goes blank. To wish the past be here again, as if we can go back and fix it all? No!
I stop and gaze at the beauty of some other light from another star from distant lands and paths unknown. We travel on - in step with time, which follows on the thinnest line. A hair-breaths shadow looms over head as if to show the way - for weary souls do thirst for light besides a tideless sea. And when our destiny is all but known perhaps the day will bring - some shady breeze from beneath the sun, in sands that sparkle in the night, surrounded by shimmering silver moonlight.
